Music promoter opposes appointment of Dr. Nagesh Bettakote as regular VC of Music University

Mysore/Mysuru: City’s well-known music promoter and former Syndicate Member of Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, C.R. Himamshu, has opposed the possible appointment of In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote as regular Vice-Chancellor of the Music Varsity.

In a press release, Himamshu alleged that Prof. Nagesh Bettakote, who is serving as In-charge VC of the University, has indulged in large scale financial irregularities and taking unilateral decisions.

Pointing out that following  numerous complaints by students and some staff of the University, the Higher Education Department has ordered a probe into the complaints, he said that the Office of the Regional Commissioner, Mysuru, deputed five of its personnel to probe the charges against Prof. Bettakote.

Noting that even as the probe is on, a Search Committee’s decision to consider Prof. Bettakote for full-time VC’s Office is a gross violation of the law, he urged the Government not to appoint him as the regular VC for any reason but instead appoint a Scholar with a clean background, who can bring laurels to the Music University.
