Music Varsity to hold day-long event to mark World Music and Yoga Day on June 21

To present Hon. Doctorate to Vidu. Dr. N. Rajam

Mysuru: Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University will be conducting a day-long event to mark World Music Day and International Yoga Day celebrations in city on June 21 between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm at Jaganmohan Palace auditorium, said University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarvamangala Shankar here this morning.

Addressing press persons at Patrakarthara Bhavan, she said that the University would also present the Honorary Doctorate to Vidu. Dr. N. Rajam, who could not make it to the Convocation held earlier this year.

The Hon. Doctorate will be presented by Minister for Higher Education Basavaraja Raya Reddy. Chief guest MLA M.K. Somashekar will release the books ‘Kalachinthamani’ and ‘Sri Purandaradasara Dhatu Maatu mattu Keerthanas’ during a function to be held between 6.30 pm and 8.30 pm.

The Varsity has also organised mass yoga programme on the occasion of International Yoga Day at 8.30 am at the Jaganmohan Palace premises which will be followed by special lectures, felicitation and distribution of certificates for the students.

Ramakrishna Vivekananda Ashrama – Tumakuru President Sri Swami Veereshananda Saraswathi will inaugurate the morning event.

The students and staff will present classical music and sitar recital after 2 pm at the auditorium.

Dr. Sarvamangala also mentioned that the University would be introducing Choice Based Credit System and also science and technology and event management in performing arts.

She also mentioned that the University would open outreach centres and stated that there was also demand to start diploma course in Yakshagana at Kumta and Honnavar. She also added that though the Governor had approved for the permanent posts, no person had been appointed owing to a temporary stay.

University Registrar Dr. Niranjan Vanalli was also present.
