Music Varsity hosts Tyagaraja and Sri Purandaradasa Aradhana Mahotsava

A music programme being presented at KSGH Music and Performing Arts University premises in city yesterday marking the occasion of Sri Tyagaraja and Sri Purandaradasa Aradhana Mahotsava in the presence of (seated from left) — Vid. Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture, had organised Tyagaraja and Purandara Aradhana Mahotsava yesterday at the University premises here.

Inaugurating the programme, scholar Dr. T.N. Nagarathna said that the contributions of great personalities like Buddha, Basavanna, Guru Nanak and Pygambar to society were matchless and unparalleled. She added that Purandaradasa had composed over 1,000 kirtanas each with a social message.

Interactive sessions were held later. Shubha Raghavendra recited Gamakas. Kurpa Manjunath spoke on music. Mayuri Upadhya and troupe presented Yakshagana ‘Daksha Yajna.’
