December 21, 2018

Mysuru: Thanks to the immense contribution of the Maharajas of Mysore to music, the musicians were able to grow and contribute more to the field, said noted engineer and Music Scholar from USA Dr. S. Sridhar.

He was speaking after inaugurating the music feature ‘Shivarama Kriti Rupaka’ based on the great Karnatak music compositions by Veena Shivaramayya and presented by Vidushi Vyshnavi Datta, in association with Ministry of Culture at Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, here on Tuesday last.

The Maharajas used to identify musicians who have achieved in the field of music and encourage them by arranging their concerts and also helping another musician to grow. The monarchs those days encouraged people in every discipline and left a lasting legacy. Music not only calms the mind but also creates a peaceful atmosphere in the society, he said.

After the exit of monarchy, democracy followed and now the responsibility for the organisations is to see that focus of youth shifts towards culture and music. Education and music will help in making a good citizen in the society. In spite of strides in technology, culture should never be ignored. Culture speaks about the unity of the country, he added.
