Demand opening of Deputy Registrar’s office

Mysuru: The non-teaching staff of the University of Mysore gheraoed the In-charge Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane at his chamber in Crawford Hall here this morning demanding the immediate opening of Deputy Registrar (Administration) M.V. Vishakant’s chamber.

The protesters said that the action of Prof. Mane in closing the chamber of Deputy Registrar was in complete violation of University’s rules.

Meanwhile, the two-member investigation team comprising of Dr. Maruthi Rao Nimbalkar, retired Principal, College of Education, Ministry of Defence, Government of India and Prof. Khanubai Mavani, former Vice-Chancellor, Saurashtra University, Rajkot, who will inquire into the allegation are yet to visit Mysuru.

It may be recalled that Governor Vajubhai R. Vala had ordered an inquiry into the alleged illegal temporary appointments of 96 non-teaching staff during the term of Prof. K.S. Rangappa as Vice-Chancellor. Prof. Mane had also written to Governor and Department of Higher Education Principal Secretary seeking an investigation into the illegal appointments. Following Governor’s order to conduct an inquiry into the appointments, Prof. Mane had ordered for the closure of Registrar’s and Deputy Registrar’s office.  However, Registrar’s office could not be closed as it was against the rules.
