Mysore Varsity receives record 11,000 applications for Ph.D admission

Entrance exam to conclude tomorrow

Mysuru:  The over a century-old University of Mysore (UoM) has received a whopping 11,000 applications seeking admission for Ph.D degree this year, the entrance exam for which commenced yesterday.

UoM Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. K.M. Mahadevan told Star of Mysore that the entrance test for Ph.D admission has begun from yesterday (Nov. 28) and will conclude tomorrow (Nov. 30). 

He pointed out that out of the 10,938 students who had applied, only 6,682  appeared  for the entrance exam on Saturday. 

Noting that the last entrance exam was held in 2017, when 5,000 aspirants had appeared, he said that in the wake of the outbreak of the deadly Corona virus, all exam halls are sanitised twice a day on all the three days and the exam is being conducted as per COVID-19 protocol, with all safety measures in place.

He further said that the exam is being held in 69 subjects and the exam is spread over three days (Nov. 28, 29 & 30) as many candidates have applied for more than one subject.

The exam centres are at Moulya Bhavan and all the Departments and the candidates are provided with sanitisers ahead of the exam, he added.
