Mysore Varsity VC calls for appropriate use of technology in higher education

Mysore/Mysuru: University of Mysore (UoM) Vice-Chancellor Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar has called for appropriate use of advanced technology in higher education, especially at a time when online  teaching and learning is becoming the order of the day.

He was speaking after inaugurating a one-day IQAC sponsored webinar on ‘Better practices in online teaching’ organised at JSS College on Ooty road here yesterday.

Noting that online mode has pervaded into all levels of education, he observed that teachers have a bigger challenge in online education. Pointing out that online coaching is different from teaching at physical classes, he said that online coaching needs special skills. He further said that students on their part, can understand online lessons better if they gain expertise that can be acquired through constant practice.

JSS Mahavidyapeetha Executive Secretary Dr. C.G. Betsurmath said that the current situation is a complex one where everyone has to move forward overcoming challenges that come in the way and the education sector was no exception. 

He said that this webinar will help in improvising technology based online teaching methods.

College’s Executive Director Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah too spoke. Principal Dr. H.C. Honnappa and others were present.
