Mysuru: The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore (UoM), Prof. G. Hemantha Kumar was felicitated by the city’s Maharaja Education Trust at a programme organised at Sri Rajendra Kalamandira on Ramanuja Road in city this morning.
Delivering the felicitation address, former Kuvempu University Vice-Chancellor Prof. K. Chidananda Gowda said that the University of Mysore has a long history of over 100 years.
Pointing to Kuvempu’s message scripted under a small artwork in Crawford Hall premises which in Kannada reads “Prashneyinda Ascharyakke: Ascharyadinda Prashnege…,” he said that the message inspires one to learn more about the world.
Lauding Prof. Hemantha Kumar’s contribution for the growth of the University, which he (Hemantha Kumar) has served as a faculty for decades, Prof. Chidananda Gowda wished Prof. Hemantha Kumar all success as the Vice-Chancellor.
Gulbarga University Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.R. Niranjana, who was the guest of honour, recalled working with Prof. Hemantha Kumar for over 20 years at Mysore University.
Stating that Mysore University has become a missionary that churns out Vice-Chancellors, he said that the Varsity has a special name in the country’s academic scenario.
Observing that the University is one of the best learning centres in the country, Prof. Niranjana said that Prof. Hemantha Kumar had never thought that he would one day become the VC of the University which he had studied. He further said that Prof. Hemantha Kumar has the capacity and strength to take forward the University’s rich legacy.
Sri Ramakrishna Asharama’s Swami Shantivratanandaji graced the occasion.
Maharaja Education Trust President Dr. S. Murali, Founder-Secretary P. Vasudev, Shishuvihara Samsthe President Dr. A.S. Chandrashekar and others were present.
