Mysore Welfare Trust joins hands with MCC for Cleanest City tag

Mysore Welfare Trust President Dr. Sara Haq in discussion with Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath about the Swachhata Abhiyan at the MCC office premises in city.

Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is making all efforts to regain the top spot in the Swachh Bharat rankings by joining hands with many voluntary organisations. One of the partners among them is Mysore Welfare Trust through whom hundreds of volunteers will gather on Jan.17 and take up cleaning work in various parts of the city.  

Mysore Welfare Trust President Dr. Sara Haq met Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath in this regard at her chambers in MCC office premises recently and discussed with her about the participation of nearly 300 volunteers in the Swachhata Abhiyan.

The Mayor said that MCC is glad to collaborate with Mysore Welfare Trust that has taken an initiative in making Mysuru an eco-friendly city. She said that ‘Eco-friendly Mysuru’ campaign will be a year-long one dealing with issues related to environment, cleanliness, hygiene and plastic-free zone.

Volunteers will gather near the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple in front of the Palace North Gate on Jan.17 at 7.30 am and participate in the first plogging party (plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter), led by Jacob Cherian.

Later, the volunteers will be doing a plogging party near the foot of Chamundi Hill, Karanji and Kukkarahalli lakes as part of the launch, she said. Dr. Haq said that Mysore Welfare Trust has come forward to cooperate with MCC to maintain cleanliness of the city. Already 200 volunteers had registered and they include college students, Medical College students and employees of private companies.

Apart from this, schools, colleges, government and private offices, business establishments, hoteliers have been asked to clean about 200 metres in  their vicinity between 10 am to 12 noon on Jan.17, said the Mayor.

Mysore Welfare Trust Directors Nikhat Habib, Safdar Khaiser, Ismail Khan and others were present.
