Mystery shrouds death of youth in Kabini backwaters

Gundlupet: A 25-year-old youth from Gundlupet has died under mysterious circumstances at Kabini backwaters and the body was found on Nov. 29.

The deceased youth has been identified as Harshavardhan alias Muthu, son of Satish and a resident of Gundlupet town. He was  working at a private company in Bengaluru.

On Monday (Nov. 27), Harshavardhan left Bengaluru to Gundlupet and his friends Kishore, Rajesh and Ravi asked him not to go to his home but come to Kabini Dam. When Harshavardhan came to Kabini Dam, the four friends ate food and ventured into the backwaters for a swim during which Harshavardhan drowned. It is learnt that, Kishore, Rajesh and Ravi, out of fear, did not inform the incident to anyone and returned to the town.

As Harshavardhan did not go home, his father Satish, enquired with his relatives and Harshavardhan’s friends on Tuesday (Nov. 28) during which the incident came to light. He immediately lodged a complaint against his son’s friends with Saragur Police.

The Police, who registered a case, visited the spot on Nov. 29, fished out the body and shifted it to H.D. Kote Government Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted and the body was handed over to the family members.
