Virajpet: A prominent woman Congress leader was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her home in Virajpet town yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as Mukkatira Anita Machaiah (52). Anita Machaiah, who had deserted her husband, was living alone at her residence in Gandhinagar of the town.

As Anita did not come out of her house even late in the morning, her neighbours getting suspicious, informed the local youth, who removed the roof tiles when it was found that Anita was lying dead in room at the rear end of the house.

Soon, the Police were alerted. Virajpet Circle Police Inspector Kumar Aradhya, who rushed to the spot, informed Anita’s relative Appachhu who resides at Madikeri.

The body was shifted to Virajpet Government Hospital for post-mortem, following which it was handed over to Appachhu.

Anita’s last rites were performed later in the evening at Virajpet Kodava Samaj  Burial ground.

Virajpet Police who have registered an unnatural death case in this regard, are investigating.
