Mysureans hog limelight at State Film Awards

Mysuru – Mysureans dominated the Karnataka State Film Awards that was announced for the year 2016 by Chief Minister Siddharamaiah at Bengaluru yesterday.

Playback singers Vijay Prakash and Sangeeta Ravindranath have been selected for the Best Playback Singer Male and Female for ‘Beautiful Manasugalu’ and ‘Jalwa’ respectively. Siri Vanalli, daughter of Music Varsity Registrar Dr. Niranjana Vanalli, has been selected as the Best Child Artiste for her performance in the movie ‘Jeer Jimbe’. Meanwhile, Akshata Pandavapura has been selected as the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie ‘Pallata’ directed by Mysurean S.P. Raghu.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Siri Vanalli said that she was very happy to be receiving the award for her first movie and added that she was waiting eagerly to receive the award on Apr. 24.

“Initially, I did not believe that I had received the award. I thought it was for the movie. But, later when I got the confirmation I jumped in joy”, said Siri.

Siri, who is the product of Natana in Mysuru, added that she would be participating in the inauguration of the theatre group’s summer camp this evening to celebrate with her friends.

Meanwhile, Amaravathi, which is based on the life of Pourakarmikas (civic workers) won the Best Film award.  Achyuth Kumar was selected as the Best Actor for his performance as a scavenger in the same film.

Shruti Hariharan, who won the award Best Actress award for ‘Beautiful Manasugalu’ spoke to Star of Mysore and said that awards like these motives her to keep working and come out with good performances.“I am happy that the award given for my performance in ‘Beautiful Manasugalu’. Honestly, the credit must go to everyone involved in the movie including Satish Ninasam”, she said.
