Mysuru COVID-19 cases inch towards 500 mark; 59 cases today

  • 252 discharged since March; 238 active cases now
  • District Administration takes over new ESI Hospital as additional treatment facility

Mysore/Mysuru: Mysuru is likely to witness a quantum leap in the number of COVID-19 positive cases with 59 persons contracting the virus today. Sources in the Health Department say that for the first time, Mysuru is recording 59 cases. However, the actual numbers – increase or decrease – will have to be confirmed by Mysuru Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar in his daily evening media bulletin.

With the latest 59 cases, the total active cases in Mysuru will stand at 238. The cumulative positive cases will stand at 495, five short of the 500 mark. Till last evening, 252 persons have been cured and discharged and five deaths have been reported till last evening. Yesterday, 25 persons tested positive and all of them were from home quarantine.

Today’s positive cases include K.R. Nagar Tahsildar and a resident of Vijayanagar in K.R. Nagar. The list also includes a one-month-old baby. As the positive cases are rising by the day, the District Administration has taken the new ESI Hospital building on KRS Road as the second COVID-19 hospital. This Hospital has 100 beds.

Till now, all the virus-infected patients were being treated at the designated COVID-19 Hospital on KRS Road (New District Hospital) where there are 250 beds. The authorities are limiting the number of patients to 200 and have kept 50 beds for any emergency situation. In addition to this facility, the District Administration has taken over the ESI Hospital.

Sources said that doctors have been asked to report to duty at ESI Hospital.

Today’s cases have been reported from Kanchinakere, Madhuvanahalli and Vijayanagar in K.R. Nagar; Rama Vilasa Road in K.R. Mohalla; BEML Nagar near BEML Arch in Srirampura; V.V. Mohalla; Hebbal First Stage near Metagalli; 26th Block Srirampura; 13th Cross Gokulam; Hebbal Second Stage; Third Cross Netaji Nagar, Siddappaji Temple Road; near Mission Hospital; First Main, Fourth Stage T.K. Layout, near Brigade in Bogadi; Kaveri Nagar, Bannimantap and Sixth Cross Udayagiri.

Ten positive cases have been reported from Arakere near Srirangapatna. Also, cases have been reported from Bademakhan, Udayagiri, Chamaraja Mohalla, Rajivnagar, Agrahara and four cases from T.Narasipur. Also, five cases have been reported from H.D. Kote including one case from H.D. Kote Police Station.
