Mysuru getting ready to host Kannada Lit Fest

Mysuru: The heritage city of Mysuru, the venue for the 83rd All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelana, is being decked up for the mega event with more than 100 workers involved in erecting the main stage and seating arrangements using German Technology for about 25,000 spectators at the Maharaja’s College Grounds.

The arrangements at the venue are being made by Marketing Consultants and Agencies Limited, a Karnataka Government enterprise. Apart from the main stage and seating arrangements, three pandals measuring about 100 ft x 300 ft to accommodate book stalls and commercial stalls are being erected at the ground located opposite to the Sports Pavilion.

Meanwhile, the arrangements to serve food for the VVIPs and media persons is being made behind the main stage and for the general public at the nearby Scouts and Guides Grounds.

The three-day Mega Kannada event will feature a variety of cultural and literary programmes at Kalamandira, Mini Theatre (at Kalamandira), Town Hall, Dufferin Clock (Chikka Gadiyara) premises, Maharaja’s College Centenary Hall and in front of Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple (Mysore Palace North Gate).

The District Administration will also mount the cut-outs of all the eight Kannada Jnanpith awardees — Kuvempu, Da. Ra. Bendre, Shivaram Karanth, Masti Venkatesh Iyengar, V.K. Gokak, Girish Karnad, U. R. Ananthamurthy,  Chandrashekar Kambar along with those of A. N. Krishna Rao, popularly known as Aa.Na.Kru— along the procession route and at the venue.

Authorities are also asphalting the roads leading to the Maharaja’s College Grounds. This apart, the main roads and Circles near the venue will be illuminated for the occasion.

Teacher-volunteers sensitised : About 2,500 teachers from various schools underwent a sensitisation programme at Kalamandira this morning.  The teachers have been selected to work as volunteers   for various Committees in the ensuing Kannada Sahitya   Sammelana.

They were sensitised about looking after the boarding and lodging facilities, food arrangements and maintaining cleanliness among others. DDPI Manjula, Kannada and Culture Assistant Director H. Chennappa, Assistant Commissioner Shivegowda, MUDA Chairman D. Dhruvakumar and Food and Civil Supplies Senior Deputy Director Dr. K. Rameshwarappa  addressed the teacher-volunteers on their responsibilities.  With just four days left for the mega event, the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to make the event a grand success.
