Golf: Pranavi Urs to represent India in Asian Games
City’s Pranavi Urs has been selected for the second time in a row to represent India in golf at the upcoming Asian Games 2026 to be held at Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, starting from Sept. 19.
The Indian Golf Union (IGU) named a six-member team (three men and three women) which includes double Olympian and Asian Games 2023 silver medallist Aditi Ashok (World No. 135), Diksha Dagar (World No. 221) and Pranavi Urs (World No. 270) in the women’s team and Sandhu (World No 451), Veer Ahlawat (World No. 558) and Saptak Talwar (World No. 576) for this year’s Asian Games.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Pranavi said, “It feels good to be representing the country at an international event. It was always in the back of my mind from the beginning of the year to make it to my second Asian Games (held once in 4 years)and I am glad to have made it.”
After representing the country in the Asian Games held at China in 2023, Pranavi will be donning the Indian jersey again in Japan later this year. It may be recalled that in the last Asian Games, the Indian women’s golf team comprising Aditi Ashok, Pranavi Urs and Avani Prashanth narrowly missed out on a team podium finish, finishing fourth overall while the men’s team finished eighth.
This year, the women’s team will be aiming at the gold to stamp their authority among the Asian countries.
Pranavi, who turned professional in 2020, will be playing a number of tournaments in the Ladies European Tour (LET) as part of her preparation for the big event.
“I will be playing a lot of tournaments as a preparation for the Asian Games. We have done well in the previous Asian Games held in China. While Aditi won a silver medal, the women’s team narrowly missed out on a medal. This year, we are confident of winning a medal,” said Pranavi.
Pranavi will be playing at the Dutch Ladies Open at Goyer Golf and Country Club in Netherlands, Tipsport Czech Ladies Open at Royal Beroun Golf Club in Prague, Czech Republic, Hulencourt Women’s Open at Hulencourt in Belgium, ISPS Handa Scottish Open at Dundonald Links in Scotland among others before the Asian Games.
Pranavi Urs is the daughter of Sharath Chandra Raj Urs and M.L. Kaivalya Urs, residents of Lakshmipuram in Mysuru.
