Mysore/Mysuru: Sahaja Samrudha, in collaboration with Swissaid and Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL, has organised a two-day Seed and Food Festival at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry in city on June 3 and 4 from 10 am to 8 pm.
The festival is a festivity of crops that has been neglected and underutilised and almost forgotten by all. The Seed Festival brings together seed saving groups from all over Karnataka, who have preserved seeds, crops and knowledge that are rich in diversity and heritage. It is a celebration of our seed wealth and community knowledge and food culture.
The Festival involves the exchange of seeds and serves as a platform for farmers to collect, store and share their native varieties of crops. Twenty seed saver groups are participating in the Festival which will display traditional rice, millet, vegetable, fruit and forest seeds. Over 250 varieties of different vegetable, rice and millet seeds will be available for purchase.
Organic Seed Production Workshop and Seed Swap will be held on June 4. At 4 pm, gardeners can meet and exchange seeds. One can bring spare seeds, plants and gardening books to share and exchange.
A variety of Jackfruit saplings including Siddu Halasu, Shankara, Sarvarutu, Gumless and ‘Super Early’ are available for sale.
