Mysuru Taluk Panchayat proposes Mangaluru model waste disposal units

Mysuru: Even as the MCC  is grappling to find a long-lasting solution for solid waste management and disposal, the Mysuru Taluk Panchayat has proposed to set up waste disposal units on Mangaluru model.

The Mysuru Taluk Panchayat has planned to set up the units at CA sites and Gramthana sites that are available in 37 Gram Panchayats of the taluk  at a cost of Rs.20 lakh each. The plants will come up on sites measuring 80’x80’, where 21 types of solid wastes generated in villages will be segregated. 

The wastes that can be recycled will be sold to the buyers and the rest will be disposed off at the unit itself, just as being done in Mangaluru. However, the wet wastes will be despatched to the MCC’s waste  disposal plant.

The Mangaluru model 

Segregated wastes will be collected from every house in the village once in a week and brought to the unit where the solid wastes will be further segregated depending on the type such as metal, plastic, cloth etc. The wastes that  are found fit for recycling will be sold to buyers, while the wet waste will be despatched to the City Corporation’s waste treatment plants.

Apart from setting up waste management units, the Taluk Panchayat has planned to construct compound walls to Government Schools under NREGA Scheme. Also exclusive toilets for girl children will be built in schools, according to Mysuru Taluk Panchayat  EO Krishnakumar.

Krishnakumar further said that  37 anganwadi centres will be upgraded under the 14th Finance Plan with every centre getting toys, seating   facilities, playground and other amenities.

Pointing out that 49 Anganwadis in the taluk were functioning in rented buildings, he said lands have been identified for the construction of nine anganwadis and works on the construction of five anganwadis has  already begun.

Stating that the taluk administration has evolved plans for the development of 33 SC community and 5 ST community burial grounds in villages of the taluk, the EO said the burial grounds will have all the necessary civic amenities.
