Mysuru: The first ever 10-day Mysuru Winter Festival (MWF), which features a host of attractions like magnificent Flower Show in Mysore Palace premises, Open Street Festival on D. Devaraj Urs Road, Movies Screening at Maharaja’s College Grounds, Heritage Cycle Rides and Food Mela at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry on Vinoba Road, began last evening.
Speaking after launching the 10-day Fest by inaugurating the Flower Show, Doll Expo, Makkala Habba and a Photo Expo at the Palace premises yesterday, State Chief Secretary K. Ratna Prabha said that tourists visit such festivals looking for newer things which are different from others.
Pointing out that Mysuru is dotted with several tourist spots such as Chamundi Hill, KRS, Mysore Palace, Darsa Exhibition, Jaganmohan Palace, etc., she said that the organisation of such Winter Festivals will largely help in attracting a much larger number of tourists to the city.
Terming the Flower Show as an excellent one, Ratna Prabha, hoped that the event will further boost the city’s image as an important destination in the global tourism map.

KR MLA M.K. Somashekar, who spoke after inaugurating the cultural programmes as part of the event, said that the Mysore Palace Board, realising the tourist potential of the city, took the initiative of organising this event.
Terming the Palace Flower Show as an excellent one, he said that the Doll Show coupled with other programmes will attract more and more number of tourists to the event with each passing day.
Even as tourists have begun to flock the venue in large numbers, the selfie-craze among the visitors too is rising.
The visitors are vying with each other in taking selfies with their family members and near and dear ones, standing in front of a hue of flower arrangements such as elephant cart, 7-headed King Cobra, Christmas tree, Raja Durbar, Diamond-studded Throne etc., at the Flower Show in the sprawling Palace premises.
Entry Free: There will be no entry fee for the ten-day Flower Show, which will be open between 10 am and 9 pm on all the days till the concluding day on Jan.1.
Also the Palace will be illuminated between 7 pm and 9 pm all these days.
