Mysuru: The Food and Cake festival which began yesterday at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry here attracted people from all backgrounds and different age groups as Mysureans were in for a treat with several delicacies and various food items being sold at the premises.
District Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa inaugurated the three-day cake festival jointly organised by the District Administration, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Department, Tourism Department, Mysore Palace Board, Mysuru District Hotels and Restaurants Association, Bakery Owners Association and Mysuru Travels Association.
Some of the well-known bakers and sweets-makers in city including Aroma, Dolphin, Regal Bakers, Master Bakers, Sri Mahalakshmi Sweets, Sweet Palace Cafe, Nandini Sweets and others through their specialities introduced the varieties of cakes and sweets to the connoisseurs.
Dolphin Bakes and Ice Creams and Aroma Bakery of Loyal World had set up wonderful exhibits of designed Cakes as teenagers were busy taking selfies with them. They were selling several bakery products like samosas, puffs, cakes, rolls, sandwiches, muffins, pastries, etc. Minions muffins, angry birds cup cakes and other types of creative cakes were prepared to attract the crowd.
Prices of cakes range from Rs.500 to Rs.1,200 a kg and people can savour the taste paying Rs.50 for a piece of cake.
Mahalakshmi Sweets had set up a sweet stall at one of the corners to tickle the sweet buds on the tongues of the visitors.
The winter season calls for hot and spicy food. Mahadeva, owner of Mysore Special Bajji, sold Chilly Bajji, Capsicum Bajji, Banana Bajji and Gobi Manchurian at one of the stores. His co-worker Ramesh said, “We set up stalls in almost all kinds of expos and exhibitions; we had setup one in the Mysuru Dasara Exhibition too. People love Bajjis over here and we ensure we give the best to them.”
While everyone was busy munching on, Neelamma had setup a space for herself with a sign Uttara Karnataka Jolada Roti where she prepared traditional Akki Roti, Jowar Roti and Ragi Roti with special varieties of chutneys. She said, “I prepare these rotis for the people and this is very healthy for the diet. We have our shop near the back gate of Vidyavardhaka Engineering College in Gokulam. We opened our shop there last February and soon we will be completing one year. We have good regular customers and we also take in bulk orders for any functions or parties.”
The Food and Cake festival held as part of the Mysuru Winter Festival had everything ranging from A to Z. You name it and your tongue was in for a treat. Home-made cookies, Truffles, Chats of various varieties, Vada Pav, Jamoons, Cakes, Cookies, Pizzas, Burgers, Rotis, Cinamon Rolls, Ice creams, Pasta, French Fries, Kulfi, Hot Fudge Chocolates, Churumuri, Fruit Juices, Lime Soda, Flavoured milk, sweets and many more available under one roof at the Food and Cake Carnival.
