Mysuru: Observing that the works of Rajarshi Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar should be an inspiration to modern day politicians, PWD and District In-charge Minister Dr. H.C. Mahadevappa said that the legendary ruler should be credited for introducing reservation in administration.
He was speaking after inaugurating the stage programme of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar Jayanti jointly organised by the District Administration, Kannada and Culture Department, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Ursu Jayantotsava Samiti and Federation of Ursu Organisations, at Kalamandira on Hunsur Road here yesterday.
Underlining the development works that were undertaken by Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, Dr. Mahadevappa said that it was Nalwadi, who laid the foundation for the State to prosper as an educational hub.
Pointing out that Mahatma Gandhi was so inspired by Nalwadi’s work, that he honoured the erstwhile Mysuru ruler with the title ‘Rajarshi.’
Noting that Krishnaraja Wadiyar played a key role in the construction of KRS Dam, he said it was Nalwadi, who introduced electoral reforms, was the first to give voting rights to all sections of the society.
Opining that the erstwhile Mysuru Samsthana was considered as the best among all Indian Provinces then, the Minister said that many intellectuals had called Nalwadi’s Rule as ‘Ramarajya.’
Reiterating that Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar is a role model for every politician of today, Dr. Mahadevappa said that there was a great responsibility on our part in continuing Nalwadi’s works.
