Mysuru: A one-day ‘Namma Yadavagiri Santhe’ (Funfair),’ organised by Namma Yadavagiri Residents Association, commenced this morning at Yadavagiri Bayalu Rangamandira. The fair concludes at 9 pm today.
The fair has 24 stalls displaying organic food items, handmade paper covers, decorative festoons, bags and many more including dress materials. For the foodies there are a couple of stalls selling chats, North Karnataka dishes, fruit juices and other delicacies.
A stall is earmarked to play Desi games like spinning top, marbles, ‘alaguli mane’ and similar games.
A prime attraction is a potter from Paduvarahalli giving a live demo on pottery creating eye-catching clay pots.
Cultural programme featuring comedy show, folk songs, mimicry and music show will be held from 6 pm.
The Funfair was inaugurated by Swami Athmajnanandaji, President of Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama, by lighting ‘Akhanda Jyothi,’ a giant thick incense stick standing six feet tall.
Speaking on the occasion, the Swamiji opined that such Funfairs would provide a plat form for people to present their talents.
He added that the youth would get to know the Desi games of yesteryears and talents of artisans. He appealed the youth to stop aping the west and focus on Indian talent and culture.
Association President Kiran Bolar, Vice-President N.V. Sudarshan, office-bearers Vani Prashanth, Vishwanath, Lalitha Nagaraj and Corporator D. Nagabhushan were present.
