Nanjangud Jailor arrested

Mandya: A Jailor serving at Nanjangud Sub-jail was on Saturday arrested by the K.R. Pet Police on charges of aiding and abetting an under-trail to abduct a person and demand a ransom of Rs. 50 lakh.

C.J. Raghupathy is the Jailor who has been arrested and remanded to Judicial Custody.

The Jailor has been accused of helping Arun, a murder accused for carrying out the crime.

Gopal Singh, a businessman, was reportedly kidnapped by the associates of Arun in K.R.Pet on Jan. 30, following which the Police, who swung into action, rescued Gopal Singh from a farm house owned by Anand near Nanjangud on Jan. 31 and arrested Avinash, Ramesh, Karthik, Muthu, Viji and Chandrashekar in connection with the kidnap. During interrogation, the Police discovered that the abduction was executed as per the directions of Arun, using mobile phone from the jail.

The Jailor, after helping Arun, had allegedly handed over the cell-phone to B.N. Murthy, who was on duty at the jail. Murthy in turn, disposed the  cell-phone at a pond in Hidithale village, it is learnt.

K.R. Pet Police, who arrested the Jailor on Apr. 22, produced him before a Magistrate, who remanded him to Judicial custody.
