Nanjangud Mango Mandi set ablaze; lakhs of rupees worth fruits gutted

Nanjangud: Lakhs of rupees worth mangoes were destroyed as miscreants set fire to a Mango Mandi in Nanjangud last night. The Mandi is located near old Subhash Park and Mutton Market and the property is owned by the City Municipal Council (CMC).

According to traders, some miscreants entered the market post-midnight and set fire to the Mandi. Only yesterday, tonnes of mangoes were brought from Tumakuru market. The entire stock, the tempo that transported the mangoes, pushcarts, side partitions and overhead sheets have been destroyed in the fire, said traders.

The fire was noticed by some passers-by and fire service department was informed. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot and a major fire was prevented.

CMC member Mutton Babu and Naved Sharief alleged that last year too, the Mandi was set ablaze by miscreants during mango season and despite complaints, the Police have not taken any action.

They have urged the Police to take action against the miscreants and also demanded compensation from the government.
