Narayana Hospital launches Kidney Transplantation Service

September 9, 2024

Mysuru: Narayana Hospital, Mysuru, a unit of Narayana Health, recently launched its Kidney Transplantation Service, marking a milestone in its ongoing mission to provide comprehensive and advanced medical care.

The launch of Kidney Transplantation Service follows successful kidney transplant of a 60-year-old patient Shankrappa (name changed). About a year ago, Shankrappa attended a health camp organised by Narayana Hospital in Nagamangala. During the camp, Dr. P. Srinivas, Consultant Cardiologist, detected abnormal blood pressure levels. A subsequent creatinine test revealed elevated levels, leading to a referral to the hospital’s Nephrology Department.

Under the supervision of Dr. K.Y. Yashavantha Kumar, Consultant Nephrologist, Shankrappa was diagnosed with kidney failure. Seeking a permanent solution, Shankrappa’s family decided to proceed with a kidney transplant, and his younger brother volunteered as the donor.

After necessary protocols were completed, the surgery was performed on July 8, 2024, by an expert team of kidney transplant doctors, including Dr. Sanjay Rao, Dr. Prashanth M. Kulkarni, Dr. S. Nagesh and Dr. S. Nitesh, supported by inhouse anaesthesiologists of Narayana Hospital, Mysuru.

Dr. Vikas Shettar and Dr. Yashavantha Kumar, both Consultant Nephrologists, formed an excellent team to guide Shankrappa through the Kidney Management Programme.

Addressing media persons at Patrakarthara Bhavan in city recently, Dr. Yashavantha Kumar said, “With the introduction of Kidney Transplantation Service, we are taking another step towards providing complete healthcare solutions. Our goal is to deliver top-quality care, ensure successful outcomes and improve the quality of life for our patients.”

Dr. S. Nagesh, Consultant Urologist, said, “Kidney Transplantation Service is a significant advancement in our healthcare offerings.”

Dr. M.N. Ravi, Clinical Director at Narayana Hospital, said, “This new service reflects our ongoing effort to offer high-quality treatment options and improve patient outcomes. The success of an organ transplant programme highlights excellent multidisciplinary collaboration that involves Surgeons, Nephrologists, Nursing, Paramedical Staff and other supportive services at Narayana.” Pavan Kumar, Facility Director at Narayana Hospital, also spoke.
