National Conference on Classical Languages of India from June 10

Mysore/Mysuru: The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, is hosting the National Conference on Classical Languages of India (CCLI-2024) in city from June 10 to 12.

Prof. Udaya Narayana Singh, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Chair-Professor of Linguistics, Amity University, Gurgaon, will be the chief guest and inaugurate the conference at Preview Theatre in CIIL at 10 am on June 10.

Prof. Shrinivasa Varakhedi, Vice-Chancellor, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, will be the guest of honour. Prof. Shailendra Mohan, Director, CIIL, Mysuru, will preside.

This is the first ever conference to discuss various aspects of classical languages in India on a single platform. Senior and young scholars who are actively involved in the research and study of the language and literature of classical languages will participate.

 The conference will discuss the significance of research, promotion and development of the classical languages of India — Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Sanskrit, Tamil and Telugu.

The main objective of this conference is to encourage the development of language, linguistics and literature by preserving, researching and promoting the rich heritage of classical languages in view of NEP-2020 and to analyse, understand the literature and its study through various aspects of languages.

Scholars from different parts of the country will present papers in Indian classical languages like Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Telugu, as well as Pali and Prakrit.

Various sessions will showcase topics on classical literature, philosophy, history, art, archaeology, epigraphy, numismatics, linguistics, pedagogy, music, manuscriptology, technology, grammar, culture, folklore, society, reception of the classical tradition, as well as the antiquity of classical literature, heritage, language policy, and other relevant areas related to classical languages.

It will also engage in sharing and discussing a diverse range of issues related to classical languages and confronts ideas about the thematic reconfiguration of values, imagery, and classical works in different chronologies across the historical timeline and the related literary, cultural, and historical aspects in the concerned contexts.
