MGP plans several activities from Dec. 22 to 27
Mysore/Mysuru: Since India’s Parliament adapted Consumer Protection Act on Dec 24, 1986, Dec. 24 is being celebrated as National Consumer Day every year. Instead of celebrating it just on one day, Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP) has organised several activities for seven days from Dec. 22 to 27.
On Dec. 22, students of St. Philomena’s College will be conducting food adulteration detection to make consumers aware of the harmful effects of adulteration. Despite a powerful Food Safety and Standards Authority of India Act, rich and poor are condemned to suffer because of eating adulterated food items.
This event will take place near Chikkagadiyara from 9 am to 5 pm. Mymul is also collaborating with MGP to show how milk is adulterated. Metrology Department will show how unscrupulous merchants take poor consumers for a free ride. CESC has also agreed to educate public on the use of solar energy.
On Dec. 23, SBI, Yadavagiri, has organised a meeting to interact with MGP members on how to treat consumers as king.
On. Dec. 27, MGP members will interact with top officials of MCC and DC’s Office on two different events to promote the concept of “Citizens are masters in democracy and not to be treated as servants.” MGP is also planning to hold interactions with educational institutions on consumer protection and responsibilities during these days.
Vidyavardhaka Law College will hold a symposium on how to improve the performance of Consumer Commission to deliver judgement in stipulated 90 days with no or minimum adjournments. “The main goal of all the activities during this week is to impress on all consumers that in a democracy only when they demand their rights complying with all the laws and act as real masters, country will develop and we can win war against corruption,” said MGP President S. Shreeshail Ramannavar in a press release.
