Bengaluru: The Karnataka Media Academy has organised a National-level News Photography Competition titled ‘Focus on News’ for news photographers.
The first three photographs selected in this competition will be awarded cash prizes of Rs. 35,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 15,000 respectively. An exhibition of 50 selected photographs will be organised.
Terms and conditions of the competition
• Entry to this competition is free and only photographs captured during the period from 1.1.2025 to 31.5.2026 will be accepted for the competition.
• Each news photographer can submit only two news photographs, captured by themselves and published, for the competition.
• There is no geographical limitation for capturing the news photographs.
• This competition is organised exclusively for news photographers. Every contestant must compulsorily attach either a confirmation letter from the Editor of the newspaper where they are working as a news photographer or an attested copy of the Accreditation Card issued to journalists by the Department of Information and Public Relations of the respective State Governments or PIB, along with the application.
• There should be no name, title or watermarks on the photographs.
• The photographs sent for the competition (digital images) must be submitted in JPEG format only.
• Since the photographs selected for the exhibition need to be printed in 20”x 30” dimensions, the images sent must be of 20”x30” size, 300 DPI and a minimum size of 5MB.
• Images captured on mobile cameras will not be accepted for the competition.
• The news photographs participating in the competition must be natural.
No part of the image should be removed or added. AI images will not be considered.
• Every photojournalist participating in the competition must download the prescribed application form available on the website mediaacademy.karnataka.gov.in, fill it out and submit it along with their passport-size photograph, accreditation card or Editor’s certificate and images to the e-mail address: focusonnewskma@gmail.com before 5 pm on June 30.
• There will be three judges with experience in the field of news photography to select the photographs received for the competition for the awards and exhibition and the decision taken by them shall be final.
