The Lok Adalat is one of the Alternative dispute resolution mechanisms in India and it is a Forum where cases pending or at pre-litigation stage in a Court of law, are settled through a compromise.

The National Lok Adalat is being held in all Courts in the country, following a direction from the National Legal Services Authority (NLSA).

In the city, the National Lok Adalat is being held under the aegis of Mysuru District Legal Services Authority (MDLSA) at all the 25 Courts in city, in which 2,456 pending litigation cases and 929 pre-litigation cases across the district were taken up for settlement.

Disputes like partition suits, money claims, cheque bounce cases, damage claims, matrimonial cases, civil cases (including marriage and family dispute) and compoundable criminal cases can be settled by a compromise at the Lok Adalat.

The decision of the Lok Adalat is binding on all the parties to the dispute and its order is capable of execution through a legal process.
