National seminar on ethics in business practices

Mysore/Mysuru: A National-level seminar on ‘Ethical dimensions in business and management: Conceptual Vs reality’ was organised by Vidyavardhaka PG Centre, Department of Studies in Commerce and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) recently.

The seminar was inaugurated by Dr. P.S. Velumurugan, Professor in Commerce, School of Commerce and Business Management, Central University, Tamil Nadu. Addressing the gathering, he said business scandals have become black crows — an integral part of day-to-day life.  “Consumerism, chronic capitalism and financial capitalism are the factors promoting unethical behaviours. This has resulted in the human behavioural aspects which are moving away from ethical community. The socio-economic concept of “Trusteeship” propounded by Gandhiji is the core for the protection of dignity and not mere material prosperity.

In his keynote address, Sudhanva Dhananjaya, Founder and CEO, Excel Soft Technologies, suggested   that the youth has to take the challenge to fight against unethical practices. Talking about current scenario, he mentioned that ‘greed and speed’ are the contributory factors of scams in  society. It is also possible for human beings to live within the ethical framework and be prosperous in one’s own career and still gain profit by complying with current laws.

Gundappa Gowda, Hon. President, Vidyavardhaka Sangha, presided. P. Vishwanath, Hon. Secretary, Dr. S. Marigowda, Principal and others were present. Technical sessions were held on “Ethics in functional areas of business and management” which was chaired by Dr. H. Rajashekar, Professor in Commerce and Director, EMRC, University of Mysore; B.N.
