National Technology Day Expo opens at DFRL

Mysuru: The National Technology Day organised to commemorate the anniversary of Shakti, the Pokhran Nuclear Test held on May 11, 1998, was inaugurated by DFRL Director Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma at its premises, this morning.

The exhibition of various models of testing kits and technology related to foods on display was also inaugurated as part of the National Technology Day. Like every year, it draws good crowd and students from various schools and colleges and the public view the exhibition with a great deal of interest, said Dr. Sharma.

Some of the things on display that attracted the attention and curiosity of the students and public included the one displayed by Freeze Drying Technology Department where any kind of food frozen at -30 to -40 degrees Centigrade can be preserved for more than a year.

Another interesting one was the frozen chilled mutton, chicken testing kit and the milk test kit where if 5 ml milk is poured on the strip, it can detect adulteration of milk.

A Mobile Food Microbial Analysis Laboratory is another attraction where the DFRL has the expertise for detection and identification of food and water borne pathogens, which poses a significant threat to civilians as well as the fighting forces deployed at borders.

The inauguration was followed by signing of MoU for exchange for transfer of hurdle technology preserved fruits by Dr. R.K. Sharma with Premchand, Director, Natures Cane Foods LLP, Hyderabad.

DFRL Associate Directors Dr. G.K. Sharma and Dr.A.D. Semwal, inventors Dr. P.E. Patki, Scientist-G and Dr. O.P. Chauhan, Scientist-E were present on the occasion.

The exhibition concluded at 4 pm today.
