National Voters Day celebrations in city on Jan. 25: ZP CEO

Mysore/Mysuru: K.M. Gayathri, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mysuru Zilla Panchayat said “National Voters Day celebrations has been organised by district Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee, on Jan. 25 at 10 am at Kalamandira in the city”.

Speaking during the preliminary meeting on National Voters Day celebrated to mark the Foundation Day of Election Commission of India (ECI), held at Devaraj Urs meeting hall at ZP on Thursday, Gayathri said “In view of forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Voter’s Day celebrations this year assume significance calling for making preparations to celebrate the occasion in a meaningful manner. The priority should be to create awareness about the significance of voting among youths”.

The event should be organised with a slogan ‘Nothing Like Voting and I Vote for Sure’. Preparations should be made to invite Karnataka Election Ambassador and former cricketer Javagal Srinath, District Judges, Deputy Commissioner, Police Commissioner and Election Icons, the CEO                               instructed officers.

The voter ID should be distributed to young voters who have enrolled in the voter’s list for the first time.

To ensure success of the programme, services of NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, students of medical, paramedical, engineering and polytechnic colleges, members of Electoral Literacy Club and hostel inmates should also be utilised, suggested Gayathri.

The programmes should be organised at school level, polling booths and taluk level and awareness should be created among senior citizens, specially-abled, weaker sections and third gender about voting.

MCC Commissioner Ashaad- Ur-Rahman Shariff, MCC Dy. Commissioner G.S. Somashekar and other Officers were present.
