National Yoga Olympiad concludes

West Bengal first, KV Mysore second

West Bengal bagged first prize in National Yoga Olympiad conducted by the Union Ministry of Education, National Council for Educational Research and Training (NCERT) at Regional Institute of Education (RIE) in the city recently. Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Mysore and Tamil Nadu have bagged second and third prizes respectively.

As many as 483 students, representing 18 States and five Union Territories (UT), had participated in the Olympiad held from June 18 to 20. Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot had inaugurated the event at the ceremony held at Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Convocation Hall on June 18.

The contestants had performed Pranayama along with Ardha Matsyendrasana, Tadasana, Sarvangasana, Ushtrasana, Akarna Dhanurasana and Shirsasana.

The students from West Bengal performed exceptionally well in all the four categories of the competition and secured 1,078 points to win first prize, followed by Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) Mysore which got 1,029 points and won second prize and Tamil Nadu with 1,010 points won third prize.

In the category of U-16 Boys, the CISCE Schools team got first prize, that had Udit Balaji, a student of President Public School, Sira, Tumakuru district, who won a Gold Medal.

In the category of U-16 Girls, Karnataka team won bronze medal, securing 1,027 points in the competition. The team included K.Y. Shrusthi, MRB School, Harihara, M. Sandhya, Government Model Primary School, Nayandahalli, Bengaluru, T.R. Kalleshwari, Indira Gandhi Residential School, Harihar and R. Anusha, Rajeshwari Vidyashale, Kenchanahalli, Bengaluru.

CISCE Schools team that finished second in U-14 Girls category had Sinchana and Yashika, students of Aditya Public School, Doddaballapura, from the State. In the CISCE Boys team that won second prize, Hemanth, a student of Acharya Vidyakula, Mysuru secured silver medal.
