Mandya: Heavy discharge of water from upstream reservoirs has resulted in the Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls in Mandya- Chamarajanagar border swell to enormous proportion. Both the waterfalls have sprung back to life regaining its splendour after a gap of four years and hordes of tourists are visiting the place this monsoon.
The two branches (eastern and western branches) flow through deep ravines on either side of the island before plunging into two different places a few kilometres apart to form the Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls. Gaganachukki and Bharachukki waterfalls are together known as the Shivanasamudra Falls.
This place had sported a dry look since the past four years owing to lack of rains. With water now in full splendour, tourists have been thronging the spot to capture River Cauvery cascading from a height of 98 meters. While Gaganachukki is in Malavalli taluk of Mandya district, Bharachukki comes under the jurisdiction of Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district.
