Nayaka community demand 7.5% reservation for ST

Mysuru: Sri Prasannanandapuri Swamiji of Harihara Valmiki Gurupeetha has warned of laying siege to Belagavi Legislature Session if the State Government fails to create 7.5% reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST) within the next two months.

He was addressing a Convention of Nayaka community at Valmiki Bhavana in Vijayanagar here on Sunday, organised by Mysuru District Nayaka Samudaya Sanghatanegala Okkuta to discuss on reservation policy.

The Swamiji said that the Centre has granted 7.5% reservation for ST but the State Government is still restricting to 3%.

He recalled that a huge protest was organised in that context last month in Bengaluru and the Deputy Chief Minister had sought a time of two months to look into the matter.

Hence, he said that the sought time would be considered without slackening the tempo of the demand and protest.

Okkuta Convenor M. Ramakrishna, Nayaka Yuva Sena State President Devaraj T. Katur, Gurupeetha Trustee Appanna,  former MLC Siddaraju and others were present.

The Swamiji was brought in a procession from Hinkal Ring Road junction to the venue.
