Mysuru: Nayaka community members staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here recently urging the State Government to increase ST reservation to 7.5 percent to maintain parity with the Central Government quota.
Pointing out that the Central Government has accorded 7.5 percent reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in jobs and education, the protesters claimed that the ST communities were not getting 7.5 percent reservation in the State, which is a grave injustice to them.
Maintaining that the State Government had failed to accord reservation to ST as per population, they alleged that the State Government’s failure to increase reservation was a grave injustice to the Nayaka community.
Claiming that the ST community has been accorded only 3 percent reservation in the State since 1956, they urged the Government to raise it to 7.5 percent and to fill up all SC/ST backlog vacancies in the State.
State BJP ST Morcha Secretary M. Appanna, advocate Paduvarahalli M. Ramakrishna, Community leaders Katur Devaraj, Dyavappa Nayaka, Hinkal Kempa Nayaka, Udbur Mahadevaswamy, Prabhakar, Kodakola Narayan and others participated in the protest demonstration.
