Negligent driving: Man gets 6-month jail

Mysuru: The Third Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court has sentenced a person to six months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 1,000 in an accident case involving a Maruti Omni where the accident victim died due to the impact.

The vehicle driver who caused the accident and now been jailed has been identified as Jayakumar, a resident of Yeraganahalli in city and the victim is Chinnaswamy, a resident of Kalasthawadi village on the Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway.

The incident occurred on May 7, 2012, when Jayakumar, driving his Maruti Omni (KA 55 M 2344), lost control and hit Chinnaswamy who was standing by the side of the road.

The impact of the accident was severe as Jayakumar was speeding. After hitting Chinnaswamy, Jayakumar’s vehicle collided against another vehicle too.

Chinnaswamy was grievously injured in the accident and was admitted to K.R. Hospital and was later shifted to St. Joseph’s Hospital for advanced treatment. Chinnaswamy died on May 8, 2012.

The Narasimharaja Police had booked a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Hearing the case, Judge R.D. Ari alias Ravi convicted Jayakumar for negligent driving . Assistant Public Prosecutor C.B Girish argued on behalf of the State.
