Mysuru: Marking the 122nd Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, a function was organised by the Netaji Birth Centenary Committee (NBCC) of Mysore University at the Library block in Manasagangothri here recently.
The programme was a solemn low key affair in the context of the demise of Siddaganga Seer Sri Shivakumara Swamiji.
The dignitaries offered flower tributes to a portrait of Subhash Chandra Bose.
Presiding over the function, former Assembly Speaker Krishna recalled that way back in 1936, Bose had written a letter to his sister contending that India after Independence should not be declared as a full-fledged Democracy for 10 years or so until all the inequalities were properly resolved.
He opined that Bose was right and added that Bose continues to be an icon for the youth. He asserted that Chief Minister or Prime Minister has no moral right to speak on corruption and regretted that Lokayukta is powerless now. He asked everybody to take a cue from the life and service of late Shivakumara Swamiji.
Freedom fighter Dr. M.G. Krishnamurthy inaugurated the programme. University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hemantha Kumar inaugurated a book exhibition.
Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, Journalist Ravi Koti, Oriental Research Institute Director Dr. S. Shivarajappa, NBCC President Dr. B.J. Vijaya Kumar, Librarian Dr. P. Saraswathi and Kannada activist M.B. Vishwanath were present.
