New CADA chief takes charge

The newly-appointed Cauvery Command Area Development Authority (CADA) Chairman H.S. Nanjappa, a senior Congress leader from Gundlupet, took charge at CADA office on Sayyaji Rao Road yesterday.

Later, speaking to press persons, he said he was committed to the development of CADA.

Promising a comprehensive development of CADA, he said that he would request Chief Minister Siddharamaiah to announce Rs. 125 crore in the budget to strengthen it.

Assuring of taking measures to check swamp, soil erosion and to improve fertility of soil in the catchment area, he said that in addition, he aims to provide proper storage facilities for grains, market access and connectivity for farmers.

Continuing, he said that 33 taluks of eight districts come under the jurisdiction of Cauvery CADA and he would work towards providing irrigation facilities and other infra-structure needed for farming community.

Stating that Kabini, Harangi, Hemavathi and KRS dams and 15 medium irrigation projects fall under CADA, he said that all measures would be taken to ensure proper and judicious utilisation of water available in dams.

Land Development Officer Somasundar, Agriculture Officer Mahanteshappa, Deputy Administrative Officer Roopa, Chief Accounts Officer Swetha and other officials were present at the press meet.
