‘Namagilla Hakkihaadu,’ a collection of Bhavageethes, released

Mysore/Mysuru: Maintaining that most of new generation poets who are into Bhavageethe writing are lacking in prosodic and rhyme skills, senior poet B.R. Lakshman Rao bemoaned that modern day poets do not have much knowledge about our rich traditions.

He was speaking after releasing writer Dr. Santosh Chokkadi’s work ‘Namagilla Hakkihaadu,’ a collection of Bhavageethes, at a programme jointly organised by Channarayapatna’s Yadunandana Prakashana and Bengaluru-based Upasana, at RamaGovinda Rangamandira in Nrupathunga School premises here on Sunday.

Observing that those who write thoughtlessly cannot become good poets, Lakshman Rao said that writers should conceptualise  that Bhavageethe is a form of art or an art work.

Contending that the content of Bhavageethes resemble a poem these days, he said that though he had written a good number of serious poems, people recognise him as a Bhavageethe poet. It is the Bhavageethes that remain etched in the minds of people for long, he added.

Lakshman Rao further said that Dr. Santosh Chokkadi’s work features a good content of  prosodic and rhyming words and all his collections are  diverse in nature.

Yadunandana Prakashana’s Rajesh B. Honnenahalli, in his keynote address, said that ‘Namagilla Hakkihaadu’ is the 30th publication of his publishing company. Pointing out that his company gives a prize to the best work every year, he said that there are plans to bring a quarterly magazine. Writer Dr. H.S. Sathyanarayan  spoke about the book. Visiting faculty and former Prasaranga Director Prof. C. Naganna presided. Music Director Upasana Mohan, Bhavageethe singers Meghana Bhat and Aishwarya Sudhindra and others were present.
