Mysuru: Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) Commissioner G. Jagadeesha inspected the quality of the ongoing road development work from Metropole Circle (Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa Circle) to Ramaswamy Circle on Jhansi Rani Lakshmi Bai Road (JLB Road), here Friday.

The Rs. 5.5 crore work on the 3.6 km JLB Road stretch from Metropole Circle right up to where it joins the Nanjangud Road is going on at a brisk pace and it will be completed shortly.

This work is part of the Rs.50 crore road project under  the Chief Minister’s Special Fund for Main Road Development in Mysuru city.

Right now, the asphalting work on one side of the 900-metre stretch between Metropole Circle and Ramaswamy Circle is completed. The footpaths are getting a fresh look with interlocking tiles being laid. It also has cement concrete ducts, stormwater drains. Painting of the kerbs and other areas are simultaneously under progress.

Speaking to Star of Mysore, Jagadeesha said, “The road works are being done according to Indian Road Congress standards. I am personally inspecting the road quality using instruments. There will be no compromise on the quality of work. We are also checking the quality of work of the footpath, because we find that it sinks at some of the places, if the blocks are not laid properly.”

Earlier, Urban Development Department Secretary Anjum Parvez had also inspected the work. Three contractors Krishnaraju, Suresh and Siddu have been assigned the work through tender process.

Cycle track : As India’s first Public Bicycle Sharing system, Trin Trin, has popularised the use of  bicycles in city, the 3.6 km stretch will also have a separate cycle track, just like on the Lalitha Mahal Palace Road. Some of the roads taken up under the CM’s Special Fund includes Bogadi Road from Government Press, Vishwamanava Double Road from Kukkarahalli Lake to Ramakrishnanagar Circle, New Kantharaj Urs Road from Ballal Circle to Ring Road, Dasappa Circle to Vontikoppal Road junction on KRS Road, Mysuru-Bengaluru Road Toll Gate entrance through JSS Medical College up to Millennium Circle, Fountain Circle (near Gilani Petrol Bunk) through Ashoka Road up to Five Light Circle (near St. Philomena’s Church) and MG Road from Law Courts to Nanjangud Road underpass, said MCC Assistant Engineer A.M. Manjunath.
