New-look Varsity Swimming Pool to reopen by February end

The renovation works of the University of Mysore’s (UoM) Swimming Pool, which was taken up in March 2017, is nearing completion and the pool will be reopened for the students and public by the end of February.

Initially the Varsity was expecting a fund of Rs.1.5 crore to renovate the pool from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) but it couldn’t get it. Later, UoM spent its own funds of Rs.2 crore to renovate it.

Stating that every year lakhs of people use this pool and during summer there will be a mad rush,  P. Krishnaiah, in-Charge Director of the Department of Physical Education, UoM, said: “The entry fee for the swimming pool is not yet fixed. Fees will vary for children, students, sportspersons and others. The pool with the new look and facilities will have a seating capacity of more than 500 seats and a hi-tech water purifier has been installed. This will ensure water will remain fresh all the time.”

Closure of the pool for the last one year has not only affected swimming enthusiasts but also professional swimmers in city. The reopening of the pool will be boon for those participating in the swimming competitions.
