Mysuru: Writer and scholar Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy took charge as the new President of Akhila Bharata Sharana Sahitya Parishat at the Parishat’s Headquarters in Bengaluru on Monday.
He replaces Dr. G.R. Channabasappa (Go. Ru. Channabasappa), who voluntarily resigned from the post due to old age.
Prof. Maleyuru Guruswamy’s name was approved by the Parishat’s Honorary Presidents Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji and Sri Thontada Siddarama Swamiji, at the Parishat’s executive meeting held recently.

Born in 1947 to Shivanna and Maramma couple at Maleyuru in Chamarajanagar, Guruswamy got his M.A. Degree in Kannada and served as a Lecturer at JSS Institutions for 33 years from 1972 to 2005.
He has several self-written and edited works to his credit, including Mahayatrika, a book on Malai Mahadeshwaraswamy, Apratimaveera, Samsa, Bangaradoddi, Sharana Kirana, Prabhulinga Leele, Basavanna, Jangama, Hejjige, Rajapatha, Somasiri, Shivaprabhe etc.
He had served as President of Chamarajanagar District Kannada Sahitya Parishat for nine years (3 terms), as President of Mysuru District Sharana Sahitya Parishat, as a Visiting Faculty of Basava Chair in University of Mysore and as Chamarajanagar District Editor of Karnataka State Gazette.
Among the many awards and prizes he has won include Karnataka Rajyotsava award (2010), Mahakavi Shadakshara Deva Memorial award, Chamarajanagar District Rajyotsava award, Rotary (East) Rajyotsava award, Kannada Sahitya Parishat Centenary award, Sapna Book House Rajyotsava award and ‘Sahitya Siri’ award given by KSRTC.
