Mysuru: In a bid to enhance knowledge in children, the city-based India Foundation for the Art (IFA) on Saturday launched an initiative titled ‘Marali Granthalayakke’ aimed at attracting children towards libraries.
As a first step, the IFA is experimenting this initiative under Kali-Kalisu plan, at Kukkarahalli Government High School, in association with the Department of public Instruction (DPI) and the Department of Public Libraries.
Under the ‘Kali-Kalisu’ plan, children of the school are taken to various public libraries in the city, including the City Central Library and the University of Mysore Library and as well as ‘Pustaka Mane’ at Pandavapura.
The children are explained on the functioning of the Libraries and how to use them to gain knowledge and develop interest in book reading. The children are also educated on the functioning of digital libraries.
The children are also thought on adapting plays from select works of noted authors and on performing such plays. The organisers say that the initiative will help the children become more creative and develop interest in outdoor activities such as painting, singing, performing plays etc., apart from helping them in improving their academic performance.
Rangayana Joint Director V.N. Mallikarjunaswamy, senior theatre personality Dr. H.K. Ramanath, City Central Library’s H.N. Poornima, Kukkarahalli Government High School Head Master K. Krishnappa were present during the launch of ‘Marali Granthalayakke’ initiative at Kukkarhallai High School on Saturday.
