NIE signs MoU to boost Start-ups

Mysore/Mysuru: The National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysuru, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NxtLeap, Bengaluru, recently to give boost to Start-ups and commercialisation of in-house research in the areas of BioCNG, Renewable Microgrids, biodiesel, water, sanitisation and hygiene.

NIE, through the Centre of Renewable Energy and Sus-tainable Technologies (CREST), has been doing pioneering work in the areas of rain water harvesting, bio-gasification and renewable microgrids.

The bio-gasification plant at Mysuru Zoo and the rain water harvesting system in Mysore Palace are testimony to the excellent work being carried out by NIE – CREST.

Now, NIE has tied up with NxtLeap Global Advisory Services to give a boost to commercialisation of the IP created through research projects. Nxtleap is a modern age Angel Investor and Business Accelerator, which has a portfolio of several valuable companies.

‘Student involvement in active, real world issues is the best way to train them to be competent engineers’, said Dr. R. Dattakumar, Hon. Treasurer, NIE Management Committee, speaking at the  MoU signing event on Mar. 3. This tie-up will also facilitate high quality internships, ideation camps and project work for the students of NIE.

Sanjay Shyamnur, Principal Consultant, NxtLeap, is credited with putting Mysuru at the centre of green fuel landscape of the country.  Dr. N. V. Raghavendra, Principal, NIE, who signed the MoU on behalf of NIE, recalled the ongoing collaboration NIE has with the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA and the OelWermeInstitut (OWI), affiliated to the prestigious Aachen University of Germany, in the areas of renewable energy technologies.
