Rs. 1,71,900 cash, race books, other materials seized

Mysuru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police, acting on a tip off that some persons were indulging in horse betting outside Mysore Race Course premises, raided the place on Aug. 7, and have arrested nine persons, besides seizing Rs. 1,71,900 cash, race books and other materials from them.

The arrested persons have been identified as Vikyath Urs of Vidyaranyapuram, R. Srinivas of N.R. Mohalla, Rajath and M.C. Chethan of Kuvempunagar, K.L. Venkataramu of Ramakrishnanagar, B.N. Ramaraje Urs of Agrahara, P. Kumar of K.R. Mohalla, P. Charan of Gandhinagar and N. Shankar of Gokulam.

Though the Mysore Race Club had restricted betting through bookies from July, 2017, some persons, claiming to be bookies, were illegally collecting money directly from those who wanted to bet on horses by promising them huge returns and cheating the Government of taxes.

DCP Dr. Vikram V. Amathe directed CCB ACP C. Gopal, who supervised CCB Inspector G.C. Raju, ASIs L. Subashchandra and R. Raju and staff Joseph Naronha, Lakshmikanth, Niranjan, Ravikumar and Kariyappagowda in the raid, nabbing and seizing operation.
