Cops to seize vehicles of riders without helmets and insurance; Will release vehicle only after owner gets both
Cracking a whip on traffic rule violators, the Mysuru City Traffic Police have intensified their drive for helmetless riding and other violations across city.
City Police Commissioner Dr. A. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, who held a meeting with DCP (Crime and Traffic), ACP (Traffic), Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors of all Traffic Police Stations recently, is said to have instructed them to intensify the checks on traffic violations.
The Traffic Police, who launched the drive yesterday at various places across the city, have collected huge fines from the violators who were caught riding two-wheelers without helmets, triple riding, drunken-driving and other violations.
The checks were conducted in Devaraja, Narasimharaja, Lashkar, Krishnaraja, V.V. Puram and Siddartha Traffic Police limits. The Devaraja Police collected a fine amount of Rs. 46,100 by booking 387 cases while Narasimharaja Police booked a total of 700 cases (300 spot fines and 400 through notices) for various violations and collected Rs. 35,000 as fine amount.
City Traffic Police are not only imposing fines for helmetless riding but they are making sure that both the rider and the pillion wear helmets before proceeding further. If both do not have the helmets, they are asked to bring them from their respective homes before releasing their vehicles.
The Police are also monitoring the movement of vehicles at the Traffic Management Centre and those found violating the rules are being served notices to their respective residences.
Interceptors are also stationed at different locations to record the vehicles for over-speeding, helmetless riding, drunken-driving, driving without seat-belts, triple riding and other violations.
In a press release, the Police Commissioner has said that stringent action would be taken on those motorists travelling without a valid vehicle insurance. In case, motorists are caught without an insurance, such violators will be asked to get the new insurance done before the vehicles are released.
The City Traffic Police are expected to continue this drive for the next few days.
