Our Chief Minister, during his recent visit to Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens, popularly known as Mysuru Zoo, showed interest in Night Safari.
Already our eco-sensitive Chamundi Hill is going commercial with mass construction activity. Now please don’t commercialise Zoo by treating animals as mere entertainment toys. They are living beings, they too have life.
Already they are losing their natural habitat and enclosed in cages. Only after sunset they are relaxed and get time to recuperate. Even some of their weekly offs (Tuesdays) are taken away and now Night Safari; this only shows that our selfish interests never ends.
Our Zoo has various species of animals and birds in which most of them are naturally day habitants except for a few wild animals and birds who are nocturnal (that too in the jungles). So meddling with their routine is just cruelty. Having Night Safari means Zoo has to be closed during the day.
Rather than imitating other tourist destinations, we should bring in new ideas without harming our socio-ecological balance and moving forward with our culture: Om Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah…
