No Primary Health Centre in Srirampura

Residents forced to run to Hospitals elsewhere

Mysore/Mysuru: With no Primary Health Centre (PHC) in Srirampura, residents of the locality are forced to rush to other Hospitals elsewhere whenever any medical emergencies arise.

Srirampura, located on Mysuru-Manandavadi road, is a densely populated area of the city, having a population of 40,000. But the locality is lacking in primary health care and residents here have to travel about 6 kms to reach the nearest hospital in areas such as Jayanagar, Nanjumalige or J.P. Nagar, whenever there is a medical emergency.

Mamatha, a resident of Srirampura, said that the locality badly needed a Primary Health Centre. Explaining the plight that she underwent while taking her expectant daughter to a hospital for child birth, she said that her daughter had to be taken in an auto even in such an emergency hour as an ambulance was not available. Any delay on that day in the dead of the night would have been disastrous for the family, she said with tears rolling down her eyes.

Khamar Jaan, another woman resident, said that the residents of Srirampura are forced to visit hospitals close to the heart of the city even for minor ailments. Noting that travelling such a long distance to reach a hospital while living within the city limits seems paradoxical, she said that the establishment of a Primary Health Centre in the locality is the need of the hour as it can serve the medical needs of the poor and daily wagers. Stating that the locality also needs a maternity hospital, she urged the elected representatives to address this issue at the earliest.
