‘Nomads should be brought to main stream society’

Mysuru: A progress review meeting of works taken up to bring nomadic tribes to main stream of society was chaired by Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep at his office here on Friday.

Briefing the meeting, S.G. Somashekar, District Officer, Backward Classes welfare Department said that at the direction of the State Government a District-level Advisory / Review Committee has been constituted headed by the Deputy Commissioner with ZP CEO as Vice-President and himself as Member-Secretary with members comprising community representatives, ZP Members and Department officials.

He further said that the Government has asked to hold meetings of the new Committee once in three months compulsorily which was being held for the first time now. He added that 299 applications have been received from nomadic tribes of the district during 2016-17 and 2017-18 seeking housing facilities.

Randeep told officers to prepare a proposal to acquire land from owners where nomads have been living to create housing facility which could be submitted to the Government.

ZP Chief Planning Officer Prabhuswamy, Nomads Advisory Committee Member K.R. Shashadri Yadav and others attended the meeting.
