Nomads seek houses: Begin indefinite protest near DC’s Office

Mysuru: Urging the Government to construct houses for them, members of the nomadic community, under the banner of Dalita Sangarsha Samithi (DSS) began their indefinite protest near the DC’s Office here yesterday.

The protesters alleged that the group houses constructed by the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board under NURM were of sub-standard and added that rain water was leaking from the roofs and the premises is filled with rain water making it look like a small lake which has become a breeding place for mosquitoes.

They said that they were living in huts at Ekalavyanagar until houses (ground floor) were constructed for them at the Government land in Shyadanahalli and urged the authorities to provide them water, electricity and drainage facilities. They alleged that influential people were encroaching the Government land and urged the authorities to save the land and construct houses for other nomadic people.

The nomadic people, who are staging protest along with children, are cooking food at the protest venue and continuing with their protest. They said that they would not budge from the spot till the District Administration fulfils their demands.
